Are You TOO Young / TOO Old for Karate?

Too Young?

Probably not. Do you have a child interested in trying karate? We'll you're in luck, because we don't have a minimum age like most programs do! Instead we just say that the youngster needs to be ready to listen. You know your children best, so you make the initial call. Then, after the first class, have a quick check in with the Instructor to see if they agree that this is a good fit. Usually, the youngest successful students are at least 4-5 years old.

Too Old?

No, you're not! Karate is for all ages. It is possible that an older body may have stiffer muscles, but that doesn’t mean you can’t try. Nearly everything can be modified to make it accessible to everyone, while still maintaining the traditions of Karate. How old was our eldest beginner? Let's just say they were comfortably into their retirement.

What do I wear?

For your first few classes, you should just wear comfortable clothes to stretch and work out in. A Karate Uniform is called a gi (pronounced 'gee'). You don't need a gi or a belt to start learning karate - let's just make sure that you like karate first!

Once you're ready to order a gi, just let an instructor know, and we'll get it in for you as quickly as we can. Please use the sizing chart to the right, and let us know what size you'll need.
